New research project APEx

13.03.2025|11:00 Uhr

Topographical influences on behaviour, interactions and accident risk in cycling are to be investigated.

Our latest research project APEx (Development of planning tools taking into account topographical influences on behaviour, interactions and accident risk in cycling) started on January 1th . Over a period of three years, it aims to investigate the behaviour of cyclists and their interactions with other road users in regions with pronounced relief and then formulate recommendations for action for the planning and design of road traffic facilities. This is because topographically challenging areas pose various challenges for both cyclists and urban planners. For cyclists, riding in rough terrain is both more strenuous and often objectively and subjectively less safe. The roads are often narrow and winding and the terrain makes it difficult to develop infrastructure. The project is funded by the Eugen-Otto-Butz Foundation.
