Bicycle Traffic Management

Bicycle Traffic Management (BVWING 2021 - 6.2.5-b) is a component in the module Verkehrssteuerung, offered within the B.Sc. VWING study programme.

Content and Learning Goals

Teaching of knowledge required for the design of cycling facilities.

Learning Outcomes

The students:

  • can explain the relevance of the bicycle as a mode of transport in the context of sustainable mobility,
  • know the different types of cycling infrastructure and forms of guidance,
  • can compare international examples of cycling infrastructure in order to identify deficits and potential,
  • are able to evaluate basic aspects of the quality and safety of cycling,
  • can explain the relevance of stationary traffic in the context of cycling,
  • are able to compare different infrastructure measures for linking modes of transport,
  • are able to understand cycling and mobility concepts and assess their quality
  • are able to assess the importance of cycling as part of municipal mobility management, and
  • are able to critically assess the goals, measures, players and structures of cycling promotion.
