BT Team joins Workshops on Cycling Simulation and Behaviour Modelling at TUM

From 14 to 16 April 2026, the Chair of Bicycle Traffic (BT) actively participated in the 5th Human-Centered Vulnerable Road User Simulation and 1st Cyclist Behavior Modelling Workshops at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). The event brought together leading researchers to explore innovative approaches in cycling simulation and behaviour modelling, fostering collaboration and best practices across the field.

During the workshop, the BT team had the opportunity to tour TUM’s new Mobility Innovation Campus, where they explored facilities for controlled real-world experiments and immersive cycling and e-scooter simulator labs at the TUM City Campus.

The BT team also took a role in shaping the workshop’s agenda. Following a presentation by Prof. Anja Huemer (UniBW) on a systematic review of bicycling simulator validation, Mathis Titgemeyer moderated an interactive workshop on this topic. The session gathered around 50 researchers, who collaboratively developed a roadmap towards community-wide best practices for simulator validation.

On 16 April, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Heather Kaths delivered a presentation on cyclist behaviour modelling and together with Johannes Lindner (TUM), moderated a dynamic workshop. Again the full audience of the event collaborated on creating a research map for cyclist behaviour modelling. Both workshops sparked fruitful discussions, generating new ideas and strengthening the resolve to establish shared best practices within the research community.
