Title:
The Effectiveness of Bicycle Simulators as a Tool in Communicating Infrastructure Projects

Keywords:
Public Opinion, Virtual Reality, Simulation, Infrastructure, Communication, Stakeholder Communication, Stakeholder Engagement

Abstract:
Communication between stakeholders and experts is a difficult experience, but new and novel technologies like bicycle simulators can help improve the experience. This method of using a bicycle simulator in communicating a project has yet to be proven to be effective and efficient. To explore if a bicycle simulator is an effective communication tool, it will be compared against traditional media, e.g. drawings, to investigate differences in participants engagement and understanding. An experiment will be conducted to measure differences in the media. In this experiment, Citizens of Wuppertal will interact with either traditional media or the bicycle simulator, after their interaction, subjects will be surveyed to measure their understanding and engagement with the media. If improvements over the traditional media are measured in the bicycle simulator, then it will validate that a bicycle simulator can be a novel and useful way to improve communication with stakeholders.
